Swim Team Makes it 43 in a Row
On September 21, 2016, the “Aqua Pats” continued their 43rd consecutive winning streak at the MAIS state swim meet.
The day started off pretty early for most of the students with warmups beginning at 7:15 in the morning at the Lakeland Courthouse. Luckily, the school provided tents and snacks for the Prep swimmers between events to rehydrate and rest up before they had to swim again.
Prep had seventy-one participants in the swim meet which definitely contributed to the victory. Ashton William Heath, a ninth grader here at Prep, set a state record in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 54.61 seconds during the 2015 season. This year, he set a new state record with a time of 51.29 seconds.
“In most programs,” said Heath, “there would be a lot of pressure, but the great thing about Prep is that Doc and Ms. Wiandt make sure that everyone has fun, while maintaining the school’s history of swimming excellence.”
A trend at the swim meet was writing creative things on your back to cast fear into competitors. Common phrases were, “eat my bubbles” and “if you’re reading this, you are last.”
