JH Patriots stomp Hornets in season opener

Amite, LA — Last night, the Jackson Prep Junior High Football team defeated the Oak Forest Academy Hornets 13-2. The game was a true dogfight. Prep’s Luke Williams, a freshman, returned a kick for a touchdown to start the night.

The game was filled with flags. Four touchdowns were called back for Prep and two were called back for Oak Forest. At the half, the score was 7-0. Prep was out to punt on the two yard line but dropped the snap. We picked it up in the endzone but were pummeled by the Hornets defensive line and they made a safety. At the end of the third quarter the score was 7-2. The fourth quarter was very nerve-racking. It was back and forth with flags being thrown left and right. Prep’s defensive line consisted of Ford Smith, Chase Galloway, Eli Berch, Gavin Mullins, and Haddon McLeod.

When the smoke cleared, the Patriots were on top to start off the season at 1-0. Coach Zander Romano got his first win as the Junior High Head Coach.

A few standouts on the night were William Deas with a few tackles and a lot of rushing yards, Ford Smith with multiple tackles, and Gavin Mullins with some amazing blocks on offense and a pair of tackles on defense. But the biggest standouts on the nights were the cousin duo of Sam McMullan and Luke Williams. The two had a few catches, a bunch of yards, and a touchdown apiece. The two have a bright future at Jackson Prep on the football team.
