Patriots pummel Cougars 48-0
On August 30, the Jackson Prep football team had its first home appearance against the Simpson Academy Cougars at Patriot Field. The team knew they had to play hard after falling to Heritage Academy 24-15. The stands were packed to see how they would perform. Simpson fumbled the ball on the opening drive, resulting in a recovery by Prep’s William McHenry. The Patriots used this fast start to propel them through the rest of the night.
After the boost of the fumble recovery, the Patriots stormed down the field. Mason Nichols, using great effort, dove and caught a pass from Jake Lange in the endzone to start off the game 7-0 in the first quarter. At the half, the score was 34-0 with Matt Jones having two of the five touchdowns.
Prep started off the half with the ball. After a long opening drive, Matt Jones carried the ball 19 yards for a touchdown. At the end of a Prep-dominated third quarter, the score stood at 41-0. In the fourth quarter, the starters began to substitute out of the game and were replaced by a bevy of backups. Mason Kimball carried the ball for two yards for a touchdown for the final score of the night. Soon thereafter, the game came to an end with a lopsided score of 48-0. The team hopes to carry this momentum into their upcoming matchup with the Oak Forest Academy Yellow Jackets for the first conference game of the season.
