2020 NFL Mock Draft
It is officially 2020’s NFL draft day: the first-ever fully virtual draft. This is one of the hardest drafts to predict in recent memory thanks to COVID-19 and the depth of some already backloaded positions. Anyway, The Sentry is here to try and predict the 2020 NFL Draft.
-
Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
With the first overall pick in the 2020 Sentry mock draft (and probably the real draft), the Bengals select Joe Burrow. Burrow has probably had the most meteoric rise of any quarterback of all time. His maturity, poise, escapability, and accuracy combined with his statistical production lock him in as the #1 pick. Not to mention, he grew up an hour away from Cincinnati. (We can only hope he pulls an Eli Manning and demands a trade out of the death trap that is the Bengals Organization)
-
Washington Redskins – Chase Young, DE, Ohio State
The best overall player in this draft falls to Washington due to the Bengals glaring need for a QB. Young is a phenom talent the likes of which the NFL gets maybe once every 15 years. He has absurd physical abilities along with great technique and effort,a perfect fit for Ron Rivera’s aggressive 4-3 defense.
-
Detroit Lions – Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State
No surprises here. Okudah fills a need at corner with the loss of All-Pro Darius Slay. smoothest hips and best press-man coverage in the draft since Denzel Ward (also OSU alum). Has one of the greatest highlight reel from a cornerback you will ever see. Great ball skills combined with great technique. The Lions get an instant pro bowl type player.
-
New York Giants – Tristain Wirfs, OT, Iowa
Wirfs is an elite Offensive Tackle prospect in a class full of instant starters at the position. Has a perfect frame along with an elite first step and a monster in the weight room. The Giants could put him at either tackle and help protect Daniel Jones. Highest floor of any tackle in the entire draft.
-
Miami Dolphins TRADE PICK TO RAIDERS (for Derek Carr and the 12th pick) – Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama
Well, we had to do it. The late Al Davis’ mentality still lives on. Ruggs is the fastest player at the combine, and if there’s one thing we know, the Raiders love speed. Ruggs is an elite runner (4.27 40) who has seen his stock shoot through the roof since January. While he is not a top 5 prospect in my opinion, the circumstances we are in combined with great momentum allow him to slip into the top 5.
-
Los Angeles Chargers – Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
The Chargers get their guy in Herbert at 6. Herbert’s great physical tools combined with his high IQ make him a good prospect in a top-heavy quarterback class. His introverted personality fits in with Chargers as they already have Tyrod Taylor in the starting gig for next season. He is a future impact starter, and a good pickup for a team needing to sell tickets.
-
Carolina Panthers – Isaiah Simmons, Weapon X, Clemson
Now this is the most dream pairing outside the top 3 in this whole draft. Simmons is the 2nd best prospect in this entire draft thanks to his great athleticism and versatility. He can play safety, linebacker, defensive end, and even corner. He can fill in the enormous shoes of Luke Kuechly at the middle linebacker and can move down to defensive end on passing downs. A great matchup if he falls this far.
-
Arizona Cardinals TRADE PICK TO DOLPHINS (for 12th pick and 18th pick- Tua Tagovaiola, QB, Alabama
Surprisingly he falls this far, but the injury risk is too great. Tua has the 2nd highest ceiling in the draft in terms of quarterbacks (Jordan Love) and the lowest floor as well. The Dolphins get a steal if he stays healthy to get him at 8. He has been their guy all along. Great accuracy and anticipation combined with a championship pedigree make him a top 5 talent.
-
Jacksonville Jaguars – CeeDee Lamb, WR, OU
Gardner Minshew ‘oughta thank us for this one. Jacksonville Gets the best receiver in the draft to help out their 2nd year quarterback from Brandon. A great route runner combined with his shiftiness after the catch gives the Jaguars a go to receiver to pair with deep threat DJ Chark
-
Cleveland Browns- Mekhi Becton, OL, Louisville
The Browns get the best physical prospect the draft has seen in years. Becton is a mountain at 6’8 and 365 pounds. He is also agile enough to get to the 2nd level with ease. He will be a quality starter protecting Baker Mayfield for years to come in Cleveland. Highest ceiling of any lineman in the entire draft.
-
New York Jets– Derrick Brown, DL, Auburn
-
Arizona Cardinals- Andrew Thomas, OL, UGA
-
San Francisco 49ers TRADE PICK TO PATRIOTS (for 23rd overall pick and third round) – Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama
