MUSIC MONTHLY: Sarah Riley Jicka recommends Thundercat

Each student at Jackson Prep is unique. Everyone has a hobby or special interest. Some people are devoted to one singer or band and want to share their love of their music with other people. This is an opportunity for students to voice their passion for their favorite music.

Stephen Bruner, better known as Thundercat, is an American producer and bassist. He has collaborated with artists such as Erykah Badu, Flying Lotus, and Kendrick Lamar. He even won a Grammy for his work on Kendrick Lamar’s “These Walls.” His music has been described as a combination of funk, R&B, and soul.

Sarah Riley first began listening to Thundercat after seeing him perform at the music festival Forbidden Fruits in Dublin. When speaking about what she liked about the performance she said, “It was a fun and magnetic experience.” Some of her favorite songs of his include “Friend Zone”, “Them Changes”, and “Walk on By.”
Sarah Riley believes what sets him apart from other artists is his “Unique funky sound, and he doesn’t take his music too seriously.”
