Why you should watch “Ted Lasso”
From Issue 3
Ted Lasso is available through the streaming service Apple TV+. It is a heartening story of an enthusiastic but hopelessly clumsy American football coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, who finds himself working for a British soccer team by accident.
When I started watching the series, I did not have high expectations for the show. Though it has an IMDb rating of 8.7/10 and a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 87%, the series centralizes around sports and soccer, neither of which I am very experienced with. Contrary to my low expectations, the show ended up being an easy-to-watch, binge-able comedy fit for anyone who is looking for a laugh – not just people interested in sports.
Particular characters, like Higgins, played by Jeremy Swift, and Coach Beard, played by Brendan Hunt make the series worth watching. Not only do they add to the comedic effect of the show, but they also are exceptional supporting characters to Ted Lasso. The show also provides insight into the brotherhood of a team through its illustrations of the English Premier League team that Lasso coaches, AFC Richmond.
Certain details of the TV show, like the creative storylines, complex characters, and exceptional acting made it a delightful watch.
