Explainer: How does Student Council work?

From Issue 10

With recent student body and class officer elections, you might wonder how student council works. Student council is a group of students elected by their peers to address issues and plan school activities and events. The student council is the voice of the student body.

At Jackson Prep, our student council helps with many events to raise money and contribute other things to the school. Our student council is made up of many officers and committee members.

For each class, they have a president, vice president, and secretary. The student body officers consist of a president, a senior, a vice president, a junior, and a secretary, also a senior.

The committee members consist of students from all grade levels. The student council holds meetings where the members attend and vote on school issues. According to one of the student council members, Ms. Hepner and the 2020-2021 student body president, Tori Johnston, would speak at the meetings.

The elections for the 2021-2022 school year took place recently. The newly elected student body President is senior Julia Stradinger and the student body vice president is junior Ian Underwood.
