One of the many benefits of Jackson Prep is the variety of school trips offered. This includes trips to Alaska, Canada, China, England, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, and Taiwan. These trips are both educational and enjoyable as students get to visit all of the must-see places and many historical areas.
This year there are many different trips to choose from. The first option is the Italy trip with Mrs. Watts. It will take place from March 7-16, and is available to everyone in 9-12th grade, as a part of the Classical Heritage Curriculum. At around the same time, May 7-17th, Mrs. Atkinson is taking any willing students form 9th-12th grade to Hilton, South Africa. She has partnered with Restoration Hope to take students on a service learning trip.
There are two other trips for the 2023-24 year, a trip to Greece and another one to Italy. Mr. Regan is bringing along all interested highschoolers for the trip to Greece from May 28th to June 5th. He plans to see the ancient wonders of the country while making sure the students learn about the history, cultures, and government of Greece. Mrs. Watts will be taking another trip to Italy, for Prep alumni and friends over 25 only from May 29th to June 7th. There is another trip in the works for next year. Mr. Richardson plans to bring 8-11th graders to London on a STEM-based trip (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
There was also a trip to Alaska last year, where many high school students got to go ice fishing, kayaking, and camping. This outdoor experience is definitely a big change from the normal Prep life. Junior Charlie Graves said “It was a day and night difference, and I enjoyed every second of it. We had a great time in Alaska and I would definitely do it again!”
I personally went on a trip to Quebec, Canada with the French class. It was in February of 2020, and we went across the province and got to do a lot of things, educational and enjoyable. We got to see many of the historical areas and see a lot of the beautiful architecture of the basilicas and cathedrals. We also got to see the Quebec Nordiques play in a professional hockey game. We did a lot of other things too, like snow tubing, going to a festival, and exploring the cities. From my experience, I would definitely recommend going on at least one trip, as it broadens your horizons and makes for a really fun experience.
