On October 31, 2024 the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association held their biannual “Best Of Mississippi” Convention. During this convention, student publications throughout the state are judged based on theme, coverage, writing, design, and photography. Staffs could win awards both for the overall publication and by individual staff members.
Jackson Prep had multiple awards given to successful publications from the 2023-2024 school year.
Earthwinds, the school’s literary magazine, won the overall title of Best Literary Magazine and a superior rating amongst a plethora of entries.
Précis, Prep’s yearbook, won a Superior rating amongst a competitive group of student annuals from across the state. Hannah Polk (Class of 2024) was a finalist in the Best Feature Spread category.
Mindprints, the Middle School literary magazine, earned an Excellent rating in the competition. Mindprints staff members Russell Gunn (8th), placed as a finalist for Best Photo while Miriam Caballero (9th) was the overall winner for Best Graphic Illustration Art. Caballero also placed as a finalist for Best Spread Design, alongside Kathleen Bess McClain (9th).
The MSPA will announce its awards for Newspaper and Broadcast at its spring convention.
