Laila Swanigan is a prominent player on the Prep softball team, and has been selected as the Sentry Student-Athlete of the Month for her outstanding performance on the softball field. She is a pitcher and also plays first base for the team. Laila, also known as “Smoke”, has played softball since she was five, but has been playing for Prep since 7th grade.
As a junior, she is one of the oldest players on the team and demonstrates much leadership. She serves as a positive role model for younger girls, both on the field and off. “Laila is such a good teammate and she brings enthusiasm to the team. She is an inspiration to everyone around her,” said Kitty Carswell, who is a sophomore on the Jackson Prep softball team.
Laila was recently selected to the MAIS Futures team for her skill. As a pitcher, she dominated the mound, with an impressive 100+ strikeouts on the season. Laila also excels at first base for the Patriots.
At the plate, Laila is known throughout the state for her impressive hitting skills, hitting a total of 9 home runs on the season.
