Jackson Prep basketball had a great season. They defeated the Jackson academy Raiders in the 6A overall state championship 52-51 Wednesday, February 26. It was a very hard fought game.
The Patriots went into the game with a 26-6 record. In thirteen of those games, Prep has beaten its competitors by 20 points or more. Their final game with the Raiders, however, ended up being much closer. In the end, Jackson Prep emerged as the winner, beating their rival by a score of 53-51.
Jackson Prep led the first and fourth quarter of the game while Jackson Academy led the second and third. Ben Segrest, starting point guard for the patriots had 19 points. He is the key point of their offense.
The Patriots have a very talented roster with Kevin Roberts, Demarion Tyler, EJ Vaughn, Ben Segrest, Cole Allen, Cray Luckett, and EJ Napier. EJ and Cray are both sophomores and will be a main part of the team next year as they already both played big roles for the team this year in the regular season, playoffs, and the championship game. These were the key players to the team. They had great chemistry and they always persevered through their obstacles.
Head coach Zachary Allison won his first overall championship in just his second year. He was the assistant coach under Tim Wise for a while and won many championships with him. He left Jackson Prep for one year to be the head coach at Heritage Academy for one year before Coach Wise left to move back to his family in Tennessee before returning to the Patriots as head coach. Fans of Prep basketball are excited to see his future and the future of the program and all the championships he will continue to bring.
