Marvel Rivals, released on December 6th, 2024, is one of the newest entries to the world of “hero shooters”. The game combines 6 vs 6 combat scenarios with many of the legendary characters from the Marvel franchise. Developed by Netease Games, the game holds a destructible fighting environment, energetic teamwork, and iconic heroes. 

Unlike most traditional shooters, Marvel Rivals revolves around the specific abilities of the various superheroes within the game. This is one of the qualities that enthralls many people about the game. There is not one specific play style that leads to winning a game. The game’s unique style of collaboration allows for teammates to combine powers for a more powerful attack, adding a special layer of strategy. 

The destructible environment also plays a large role in the action. The maps that you play on, inspired by different Marvel locations such as Asgard or Wakanda, can be reshaped by battle. 

Visually speaking, the game sticks to a more comic-book inspired art style to depict the characters with. 

Despite its strengths, Marvel Rivals does face problems with balancing the heroes, as any hero shooter does. It is also a free to play game so many will watch their approach to monetization. If either of these problems get out of hand it could drive players away.
