Earthwinds, Jackson Prep’s literary magazine, has recently won several high awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Under the Golden Crown category, Earthwinds has earned a Gold Medal. The award was for the 2014 edition of the magazine, edited by the Class of 2014’s Morgan Hydrick.

The official score out of 1000 was 949, which senior and current editor Dotsie Stevens says is the highest the magazine has ever achieved. Also under the Golden Crown awards, Earthwinds has received two All Columbian Awards in the Visual and Verbal categories.

By winning a Gold Medal, Earthwinds has also earned a place in the semi-finals for an opportunity to win a Golden Crown. Earthwinds usually wins the Silver Crown award, and has only won a Golden Crown once before, but because of the high score the magazine received, the staff is hopeful.

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association also has an award category called Golden Circle. Under the Golden Circle, Earthwinds has earned many achievements. Hannah Herrin received a Third place ranking for her typography spread of the poem “White Wine.” Hannah also received a Second Place ranking for her poem “Amelia” in the Traditional Poetry Form category.
