On Thursday, March 26, 2015, Dr. Jason Walton was formally installed as the newest leader of Jackson Preparatory School, succeeding Ms. Susan Lindsay as the 6th official Head of School. Dr. Walton began performing the job last summer.
The service was held in Prep’s newly-built Fortenberry Auditorium, with faculty, staff, friends, family, alumni, parents, students, and local dignitaries in attendence.
Once all attendees were seated in the crowd, the teachers proceeded to enter the ceremony in their academic robes. The processional, “ Praise the Lord! Ye Heavens, Adore Him”, was played by on the piano by Choral Director Dianne Holbert during that time. After everyone was settled, Kennady Galloway, Senior High Student Body President, gave the invocation, introducing the members on the stage. After this, the Junior high Student body President, Gregor Vance, lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Next, board president Dr. Clay Hays Welcomed the audience. Prep’s show choir Reveillon then proceeded to sing “Sweet, Sweet Spirit”. The keynote address followed, given by Dr. John E. Chubb who is the President of the National Association of Independent Schools.
Once finished, Dr. Hays then installed Dr. Walton, who then gave a gracious response. Dr. Walton personally greeted many of the members of his family that attended the evening. In his remarks, he talked about the need to build on the traditions of the school to meet the challenges of the future. The ceremony then ended with Reveillon singing the “Alma Mater” and the crowd exited to the recessional of “Hymn of Joy” played by Ms. Holbert.
A reception followed as members of the Prep family had the opportunity to talk to Dr. Walton and to wish him continued success as he settles into his new role.
