Baseball Justifying Their Rank
The Jackson Prep Varsity team has been on a excellent run, starting the season with a great record. The group has played in two round robin tournaments and showed why they received a number 16 ranking from the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s national poll.
They first played in the Capital City Shootout where they played Benton Academy, North Delta Academy, Houston High School, and Horn Lake. They outscored their opponents 57-7 in four games.
The Patriots showed their depth in these games, not only from their outstanding class of seniors, but also the young talent on the team. Sophomores, Matthew Myers and Hudson Little, were key players in these games. Also, freshman Knox Loposer, showed why he is playing up with his impressive bat and play behind the plate.
Pitching has been lights out. Noah Hughes, Parker Caracci, Jake Mangum, and Nick Elrod have had commanding performances.
Hughes lead the Flowood Patriots to a 6-5 win over a great Madison-Ridgeland Patriots team. Hughes had 12 strikeouts in 7 innings, only giving up 3 hits and an OPA of .120. Hughes also had a 10 strikeout game against East Rankin Academy.
Caracci threw a no-hitter against East Rankin in the same series. In this impressive outing, he had 6 strikeouts in 5 innings of play.
The Patriots toughest test has come in the Adidas Rex Deep South Classic which took place in Sumrall, MS. The team played 5 games, finishing with four impressive wins and only one loss to the hosting Sumrall Academy. The loss was the last of their five games but has not stopped the Patriots from their main goal: a 4th straight State Championship.
The team has started conference play and are looking to continue their success through the rest of the season.
