Prep Players To Perform M*A*S*H
Cast meets with real veterans during preparation for play.
For the spring play the Jackson Prep Players will be performing M*A*S*H.
M*A*S*H was a TV series from the seventies and eighties, and before that a much-lauded 1970 motion picture. Both were based on a book, MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors by Richard Hooker.
The book, movie, and TV series followed doctors in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital or M.A.S.H. unit during the Korean War. The movie came out while the United States was still involved in the Vietnam war, and often raised questions about the horrors of war. It TV series was popular and ran for 11 years, becoming a part of American pop culture.
The Prep cast went to the Hilton Hotel downtown on April 18th and met with an organization called Bonfire Builders working with wounded veterans. Several P.O.W.s (Prisoners of War) from WWII came as well as Loretta Swit, the actress who played Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Hoolihan in the television incarnation of M*A*S*H. The audience also watched a documentary on prisoners of war called “Never the Same.”
The play will be performed the 24th, 25th and 27th. Come out and buy tickets!
