On Wednesday March, 29, a group of Jackson Prep seniors took a field trip to the Mississippi State Capitol.

Led by government/economics teacher Ms. Lou Ann McKibben, the class started by taking a tour of the building. The group then sat in on the Senate as well as the House of Representatives.

Once they were done with their tour of the building and two houses, they were able to sit down and talk with some members of the state legislators. After a surprise visit from the Rankin county representative Brent Powell, the group was able to meet with speaker of the house Philip Gunn. He talked to the class about all of the behind the scenes business that happens in the legislature, and what a year in the life of a legislator is like.

The speech concluded the trip for the group as they prepared to head back to school.
