OPINION: In times of crisis, Americans rise to the challenge

COVID-19 has required a lot from Americans. We have had to shift to remote learning, stay away from friends, and work from home. It really is hard to fathom how much America has come together during this crisis to care for and serve each other.

America is the greatest country in the world. The grocery store and restaurant employees, healthcare workers, and other essential workers prove this. They get out and put themselves in danger everyday, so that Americans get whatever they need. Manufacturers of everything from cars to pillows quickly transformed into manufacturing ventilators and personal protective equipment.

Americans all over the country rose to the occasion, adhered to the CDC’s coronavirus prevention guidelines, and truly saved many thousands of lives. As we begin to partially and gradually reopen society and release the might of the American economy, let us be diligent in following the direction of medical and government officials and to continue to protect each other.

While there is a lot of bad going on, the unity, determination, and winning spirit of the American people has gotten us through the peak of the crisis, and it will get us through the remainder of its duration. While the fight is not over, there is no doubt in my mind that whatever comes next or whatever challenge we might face in the future, whether it is a pandemic or not, Americans will be the most prepared and able to deal with it.

Do not let anyone tell you that America is not great or that it is just like every other country. America has proven time and time again, both in times of crisis and times of normalcy, that we are truly the greatest country in the history of the world.
