As football season comes to a close, basketball shifts to the forefront of Prep’s sports focus. The boys’ team got off to a slow start with an early season loss to Germantown, 61-40. The Patriots then bounced back and went on a four game win streak. The first win was an 18 point victory over Greenville Christian at home. The boys would then beat roll CCA, 69-34. Their next win came against Florence, on the road, with an 11 point win. The last win of the streak was a beatdown of Tri-County, 69-32. The team would then lose their footing with 4 straight losses after winning four straight. These losses were to Oxford, Desoto Central, Pearl, and Hartfield.
Junior Joseph Chaney said “Despite the rocky start, I believe the team can recover and hit the ground running in time to finish the season strong.” The Patriots have ample time to find their groove due to the season ending in February.
The Jackson Prep girls basketball team has started the season with several big wins, rolling past Riverfield, Central Hinds, Tri-County, Oxford, South Pontotoc, and Hartfield.
Southern Miss commit Meg Barbour has been the steady leader for Prep, bringing energy and big-time plays in every game.
With plenty of season left, both teams are looking to improve their play and make a run at the state championship.
