Prep defeats PCS to advance to state championship

On Friday November 11th, the Jackson Prep football team headed to Hattiesburg to face off against the PCS Bobcats in the semi-finals of the MAIS playoffs. The game was a rematch of the regular season game which was one by PCS.

Prep would open up the game with a bang as Jerrion Ealy caught a 71 yard touchdown from Chance Lovertich. PCS would quickly answer with a four yard touchdown run to tie the game. Both teams added touchdown runs to go into halftime tied at 14.

Reed Peets kicked off the scoring in the third quarter with a 37 yard field goal to give Prep a 17-14 lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, Prep extended its lead to ten with a one yard touchdown run from Chance Lovertich.

PCS would not go down without a fight as they answered with a one yard touchdown of their own. PCS would get the ball back with three minutes left and a chance to win. On fourth and one with one minute remaining, JoJo Pound tackled the PCS running back in the backfield to shut down the threat. When the final buzzer sounded Prep came out with a hard fought 24-21 victory.

Chance Lovertich passed for 131 yards and added two touchdowns. Jerrion Ealy led the rushing and receiving attacks with 118 total yards and two touchdowns. JoJo Pound and Jake Newsome led the defensive attack with some key stops. Prep’s next game will be on Friday November 18th against the MRA Patriots in the MAIS AAAA State Championship.
