Number six is within reach for Prep football

Clinton, MS. — Championship week has officially arrived, and the Jackson Prep Patriots are prepared for their final matchup of the year versus the Parklane Pioneers. The Patriots enter the game as the top team in the playoffs, and they have high expectations going into this game. Prep has won the last five 4-A state championships in a row, and they will look to add their sixth Friday.

The last time these schools met, in week 11 of the regular season, Prep cruised to a 41-14 win. They were carried in this game by four-star running back Jerrion Ealy, who had 293 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns. Parklane will have their eyes on Ealy all game, but so far this season just having your eyes on him hasn’t been enough, seeing as he has rushed for just over 1600 yards on the season. If the Pioneers are somehow able to slow him down, however, watch for senior quarterback Chance Lovertich and his receiving core to have a big game. Chance has had a 66% completion percentage on the season, and he has passed for over 2100 yards and 30 touchdowns, so look for his final game in a Patriot uniform to be a dominant one.

Parklane may be the second-seeded team in the playoffs, but they will definitely be seen as the underdog heading into this game. Though they are the underdogs, don’t count the Pioneers out just yet. They enter the game with only two losses thus far, and they have wins on the season over MRA, PCS, and Jackson Academy (twice). They are led by their two star-studded running backs (SR) Jay Smith and (SR) Trent Coleman. Both backs have proved to be dominating figures in the Pioneer offense, seeing as they have combined for over 3000 rushing yards, and they will both have to find a way to have this kind of success in this game if they want to keep up with the high scoring Patriots offense.
