Supply cart makes school shopping convenient

Prep’s junior high students can find their school supply needs on the junior high supply cart operated by members of Chi Alpha Mu, the junior high math honor society.

The supply cart was founded in the fall of 2017 by Ms. Trina Sapen and Ms. Tracie Eakes as a way for Chi Alpha Mu students to help others and earn necessary service hours in the process. Chi Alpha Mu’s current sponsor, Ms. Margaret Harvey, said, “It is a way our members can serve junior high students and use our math skills at the same time.”

Each member of Chi Alpha Mu must earn one required service hour by serving three twenty-minute shifts either operating the cart or tutoring junior high math students. Currently, the supply cart is open from 7:40 to 8:00 on Tuesday mornings and during activity period on Wednesdays.

The goal of the supply cart is for Chi Alpha Mu members to help the student body while using their mathematical skills in the process. 9th grader and Chi Alpha Mu member Patrick Faulk says his favorite part of operating the supply cart “is the feeling you get from helping people.”

The cart sells a variety of school-related items, including pens, pencils, markers, note cards. Junior high students may also request additional items be added to the inventory for their convenience. All money made from the cart goes directly to replenishing its supplies.

Available only to junior high students, the supply cart is a great place to stock up on study materials, writing tools, or other miscellaneous school supply items.
