I was disappointed. Taylor Swift’s new album The Life of a Showgirl has brought a lot of outrage and confusion to the once-jolly halls of Prep. This album is one of the most bland, juvenile albums my poor ears have ever heard. The album consists of twelve questionable songs made by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, and Shellback.
Though there are a couple songs like “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite” which I can listen to without cringing, I am almost unable to listen to the other 10 songs.
Since the release of The Tortured Poets Department, Taylor Swift has been on a decreasing slope in her quality of writing. She is typically known for her lyrical skill and not for her musicality. But along with the lack of good instrumental construction, this album doesn’t even have good lyrics. For instance in her song “CANCELLED” she sings, “did you girl boss too close to the sun, did they catch you having far too much fun.” Taylor Swift has lost all of her lyrical depth that she once had, making songs in this album come off as more adolescent than the others.
Though I am not a big Taylor Swift fan, I still enjoy some of her songs from albums like Folklore and Lover. This one was just awful in every way. I did not think it should have been released.
