Amanda Slack named Head of Lower School

As Lower School plans have been rolling out, many have been wondering who will be the Head of the Elementary School. On March 9, Head of School Lawrence Coco was thrilled to  announce that Ms. Amanda Slack would be taking on this position. 

Ms. Slack is a graduate of Harpeth Hall School and Baylor University and has a B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education with an endorsement in kindergarten as well as holding a M.S.Ed. from Vanderbilt University in Early Childhood Education, making her more than qualified. 

Ms. Slack is the mother of two sons, 2016 Prep graduate Noah Slack and senior Joseph Slack.

Ms. Slack and her family are active members of First Baptist Church of Jackson, where she has served as the Children’s Minister since 2018. 

Prior to this, she taught second grade at First Presbyterian Day School for eight years afte. She has also taught at both elementary and middle schools in Texas and Tennessee, and spent years as a full-time mom and part-time volunteer.

Ms. Slack is honored to be given such an opportunity. She said, “I am excited about encouraging the youngest of learners to reach their full potential through a nurturing, engaging lower school experience that upholds the Jackson Prep tradition of excellence.”

Mr. Coco said, “We are delighted to have Amanda Slack as the Head of Jackson Prep’s lower school. Proven and strong leadership is essential when setting out on a new adventure like the one ahead of our school. Amanda possesses the leadership qualities and classroom know-how to establish a strong foundation for the lower school–a foundation that will benefit the students arriving in the next few years.”
