A small group of students spent their spring break traveling to Italy with teacher Ms. Beth Horlings for an educational and memorable experience. During the trip, the students explored historic sites in Rome and learned about the country’s rich culture and history. They left on Thursday the 5th of March and returned on Sunday March 15th.
One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the famous Colosseum, where students were able to see one of the most well-known landmarks from ancient Roman times. They also had the chance to participate in a gladiator training camp, where they learned about the training and techniques used by Roman gladiators.
Senior Elizabeth Sweat said she was excited to go on the trip because she has always been interested in the history and culture of Italy. One of Elizabeth’s favorite parts of the trip was getting to know the other students better while traveling together. She also especially enjoyed seeing the Colosseum in person. “I really enjoyed the Colosseum and thought it was really cool,” she said.
In addition to sightseeing, Elizabeth enjoyed trying Italian food and experiencing everyday life in Italy. She noticed many people traveling by Vespa and the tour group even got to experience it. She said the food “was really good.” She was also surprised that the weather was warmer than expected and that it only rained once during the trip.
Elizabeth even learned a little Italian, including how to say “hello” and “thank you.”
Overall, the trip was an unforgettable experience that combined history, culture, and fun, leaving students with memories they will savor for years to come.

On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, a group of Prep students departed on their trip to London, England, and other surrounding areas in Great Britain.
Led by Ms. Emily Waterloo, students got to see many musicals, attend acting clinics, tour the Globe Theater, and more. While the majority of the travelers are active in the Performing Arts program, this was not a theater trip per se. Students from all different backgrounds were invited to experience the wonder of London.
London is known for its theater culture; the group saw many musicals and plays, such as Oliver, Phantom of the Opera, Hadestown, Summerfolk, and Matilda. They also saw Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s hometown. There, they learned much about Shakespeare’s life. “In London, I learned much about theater and British culture. Overall, it was a great experience that I would definitely do over again,” said Senior Charles Grenfell.
