Rod and Reel Team Lures in New Members

From Issue 4

During the spring of 2015, Jackson Prep’s new “Rod and Reel” team starts. This team is sometimes confused as a regular fishing team but it is actually a fly fishing team.

The season for the Rod and Reel team begins March 10th and ends May 5th. During the weeks between these dates practices will be every Thursday from 3:45 pm to 5:30 pm. To join this team it is $750  for the season. That money includes: a Sage Approach Rod, Reel and Line with a lifetime warranty, and Fly Tying Kit, both which can be used for a lifetime. Although, if a student already has fly fishing rod, reel and line, then the cost is reduced by $350. Providence Hill Farm is hosting the Rod and Reel team.

Christopher Haddad, top angler and former fishing manager at Orvis in Ridgeland, will direct and be the Head Coach of this team. Chris is both a proficient fly fisherman and an expert fly tier.

This team will schedule for local tournaments, intermural competitions and team competitions against other schools, dates are to be announced. Contact Coach Shufelt for further information or if you have any questions. Registration is wide open but limited, preferred by December 15, sign up soon!
