On March 28th a few members of The Sentry staff travelled to Oxford for the MSPA convention. The Mississippi Scholastic Press Association is an event for all high school publishing such as newspaper, yearbook, broadcasting and more.
The Sentry staff had a great experience and learned a lot about journalism while meeting fellow student journalists.
The day started off with breakout sessions which were given by university professors informing attending staff members about journalism tactics. Breakout sessions included “Breaking into Sports Media,” “Covering Politics Without Being Political,” and “Entrepreneurship in Media.”
The day concluded with awards where The Sentry was recognized in a number of categories (see below), as well as being one of only three newspapers awarded a “Superior” rating, the highest available. Editors and staff were all very proud of their hard work.
