Visitors to campus will notice a change near the recently-constructed Lower School building.

Since the last school year, Jackson Prep’s lower school student population has almost doubled. Due to the increasing number of students, the school has found it necessary to add temporary buildings to the lower lawn, which is on the eastern side of campus and has often been referred to as the “band practice field.”
These buildings have been dubbed “the Cottages at the Lower Lawn.” These “cottages” are used for music and art classes, and a dining space for the students.
According to Mr. Forrest Ashworth, Prep’s Chief Operating Officer, the lower school kids love the buildings and all of the class activities done in them.
This project has been about a year in the making. Since the rapid increase in Jackson Prep’s lower school enrollment, Prep’s facility has started working to expand the lower school. The cottages are only phase one of the plan and are temporary. Mr. Ashworth says, “Phase two would have a gymnasium, a cafeteria, and fifteen or seventeen more classrooms.” The cottages are only the first step of the expansion of the lower school. Expect to see much more in the months and years to come.
